Since July, Material
Mix CEO, Allison Carmen, has represented the company in Santiago as part of the
global accelerator program, Start-Up Chile.
In the final months
of the accelerator, Start-Up Chile hosted a “Demo Battles” event in
coordination with AngelHack that brought together the best of over one hundred international
startup companies currently living in Chile. For three days beginning on
Friday, November 22, the companies participated in activities leading up to the
final battle between the best projects. Material Mix was selected from 100
companies as the top 15 in Start-Up Chile to compete.
The first stage of
the competition, Demo Day, took place on Friday. Each company had three minutes to explain their business proposals to an
expert panel of international judges and an audience of over 300 industry
professionals.
Material Mix was selected as the winner of the
event, and received the grand prize of a round-trip ticket from Santiago to
Silicon Valley to meet with investors as well as an invitation to participate
in Wayra Week 2014. Material Mix and the top runners up, Totus Power and ClickMedix, were invited to pitch again at the final Demo Battles event on Sunday,
where the Start-Up Chile companies faced off against the three winners from the
weekend-long AngelHack event. Because Totus Power was unable to attend the
event Sunday, third runner up, BoxFox, took their place.
Of this
opportunity, Carmen said, “I am very grateful to Start-Up Chile for giving me
the opportunity to show my project to such a diverse panel of investors.”
Carmen will continue her stay in Santiago through the Start-Up Chile program conclusion
in February 2014.
